An attractive new generation energy industry cluster is being built in the Biotie area where biomaterials and circular materials are utilised in effective synergy.
Located in the vicinity of the Joensuu city centre, the area at the intersection of Highway 6 and Ilomantsintie (main road 74) has plenty of room for growth and easy connections to the water and railway logistics centre in Joensuu’s deep-water harbour area. The master plan of the area shows a reservation for a future railway connection. In the future, carbon neutral energy and diverse side-flows will enable new and sustainable business.
Companies located in the Biotie region have access to world-class green energy infrastructure, which has attracted significant renewable energy investment projects. Biotie offers an opportunity for industrial symbioses, as companies can produce energy for the region and utilise the energy produced in the area.
Savon Voima Oy's biopower plant, which produces electricity, heat and process steam with a small carbon footprint, is located in the area. Secure power is guaranteed with an existing 110 kV power network connection. A pipeline connection has been made from Pielisjoki to obtain cold water for cooling. In addition, it is possible to transfer waste heat into the district heating network.
