PRESS RELEASE Nov. 11th, 2025

The technology enables the permanent storage of carbon dioxide in precast concrete elements, reduces the use of cement and lowers the carbon footprint of production by more than 60 percent.

Precast concrete manufacturer Lipa-Betoni is making history by becoming the first precast element manufacturer in the world to adopt Carbonaide® technology at its Naarajärvi plant in Southern Savonia.

“We are proud to be pioneers in this globally significant transformation,” says Satu Lipsanen, CEO of Lipa-Betoni.

“This is a plant-wide upgrade covering our entire production capacity, enabling us to offer low-carbon concrete elements on a broad scale as early as 2026.”

A major investment project is currently underway at the Naarajärvi plant, where Carbonaide’s systems are being integrated into Lipa-Betoni’s entire precast production process. The work includes module manufacturing, tank deliveries and system installations. These will be followed by test operations in early 2026, after which the plant will move to full-scale production.

Concrete element technology provider Elematic Oyj has developed sealing solutions for the doors of Lipa-Betoni’s curing chambers, enabling the safe use of carbon dioxide within the production process.

Collaboration with Elematic opens doors to international markets

Tapio Vehmas, CEO of Carbonaide, sees the Lipa-Betoni project as a major springboard for the company’s international growth.

“We are now expanding into the precast concrete industry together with Lipa-Betoni. This first full-scale factory integration is also a significant step in our cooperation with Elematic, allowing us to rapidly take our solution to the world’s fastest-growing construction markets, including India, China, the Middle East and Ukraine,” Vehmas says.

Elematic and Carbonaide announced their collaboration in spring 2025. The companies aim to bring sustainable precast concrete manufacturing technology to global markets. By combining Elematic’s equipment and automation expertise with Carbonaide’s carbon dioxide treatment technology, the partnership enables the production of more environmentally friendly concrete elements while permanently storing CO₂ within them.

“Globally, construction accounts for around one third of all carbon dioxide emissions, and about seven percent in Finland. Carbonaide’s technology supports our low-carbon ambitions and offers our customers a more efficient and sustainable way to manufacture precast concrete elements. The Lipa-Betoni factory project is a concrete demonstration that the industry is moving towards a low-carbon future,” says Teppo Voutilainen, CEO of Elematic.

Breakthrough in low-carbon construction

Carbonaide’s technology can reduce cement use by up to 20 percent. It also accelerates production and improves the mechanical properties of concrete. Together, these benefits make production more cost-efficient and climate-friendly, enabling industrial-scale low-carbon construction.

With Carbonaide’s technology, Lipa-Betoni initially aims to achieve emission reductions of more than 60 percent when using heavily blended cements within normal production timeframes. This would place the company below Finland’s current low-carbon concrete classifications. The method also enables the possibility of reaching carbon-neutral production, which would be unique globally.

Lipa-Betoni’s investment covers the entire factory capacity, making it possible to supply low-carbon concrete elements even for large construction projects immediately after the test phase. Negotiations for the first projects are already underway.
