Timo Vuorenpää brings decades of hands-on experience from the world where light meets security. A seasoned expert in photonics, Timo has spent much of his career working with optical and electro-optical technologies – the invisible systems that turn light into intelligence, awareness, and protection.

His work has focused especially on the role of photonics in defence and security environments, where advanced optical technologies support situational awareness, sensing, and decision-making in complex operational settings. Today, Timo operates through his own consulting company, advising organisations on photonics applications, system design, and the integration of advanced optical technologies into demanding real-world systems.

At SOHJO 2026, Timo brings a practitioner’s perspective to the discussion on how light becomes insight – and how photonics quietly powers many of the technologies that help keep our digital and physical borders secure.
