The Finnish Comms Awards, held at the Clarion Hotel in Helsinki on Thursday, October 31, 2024, recognized impactful communication campaigns and initiatives. Photonics Joensuu was nominated in the Business and Community Communications (External) category with the campaign "Joensuu – The Home of Photonics," created in collaboration with communications agency Oy SEK Ab, and took home the category win.
Photonics Joensuu’s branding and communication efforts were led by Business Joensuu and the City of Joensuu in partnership with SEK as part of the Innocities Joensuu initiatives. Numerous experts and stakeholders from Joensuu’s photonics sector participated in workshops, which laid the foundation for Photonics Joensuu’s shared messaging, communications plan, and visual identity.
The jury justified their choice as follows:
“A successful communication package that achieved objectives on multiple fronts. Clear description of the starting point, challenges, goals, and solutions. The agency’s work reflects thorough and professionally managed strategic consulting, achieving its targets.”
“Awarding Photonics Joensuu as an impactful communications project is a testament to the good collaboration during the project and to the results achieved through strong, collective communication for Joensuu’s photonics ecosystem,” says Anne-Maria Kankaisto, Marketing Specialist at Business Joensuu, who received the award as a representative of Photonics Joensuu in Helsinki. “The work to increase awareness of Joensuu’s photonics expertise continues under Photonics Joensuu.”
