Recently the Joensuu business community as well as research and education competencies have been receiving remarkable recognition. Internationalization award of the President of the Republic of Finland to Forest Joensuu   "This recognition is a great example of the power of collaboration. Regional forest stakeholders have created a model where practical operators, researchers, developers, and companies can connect. International research and development activities, combined with the high-quality business services of Business Joensuu, pave the way for the internationalization of companies", says Lauri Sikanen, leading researcher at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) Read more Joensuu-based Carbonaide has partnered with group of European companies including Swiss sports brands Mammut to store 90 tons of CO2 in concrete by the end of 2024.  A Concrete Future: Carbonaide Leads the Way in Storing 90 Tons of CO2 in Concrete by the end of 2024   Pavement products manufacured by Carbonaide’s technology have been recently used in multiple construction projects in Finland including Pohjois-Karjalan Osuuskauppa (PKO) new grocery store in Joensuu   Further, real estate company Joo Group has used Carbonaide’s product in their new concstruction project at Kirkkonummi.    Carbonaide is expecting new concrete manufacturers in Finland and Denmark to start using its technology and aiming on expanding its technology to elemental structures next year with Finnish partners. Latest Mergers and Acquisitions    Bergman & Beving acquires Ovesta Oy - Ovesta sells bespoke fireproof and soundproof doors to construction and real estate companies and will be part of the Division Core Solutions as a subsidiary to Kiilax.   Arbonaut Oy Ltd sold to Sweden - MW Forest Sense acquires the pioneering digital forest inventory company. Joensuu Startups gain significant funding and big industry players grow their operations in Joensuu   Hiil Ltd. Secures significant Startup Funding for Eco-Friendly Charred Wood Products   Valio is relocating its operations from the Helsinki metropolitan area to Joensuu, to the heart of dairy farms.   Youpret Ltd has won Kela's tender for remote interpreting in foreign languages. This is a multi-year contract that will significantly multiply Youpret's workload.   EFM Group Makes Multi-Million Investment in an industrial scale painting facility in Joensuu.   Kelluu's airship on the Helsinki sky arises attention during Slush   CEO Janne Hietala was showing same-day video footage from Helsinki at the Borderland - Securing the Future event. The airship made it to national news as people were wondering what the unidentified flying object over Slush was all about. Read more The Digital Border Security ecosystem is developing in Joensuu   Eastern Finland plays a key role in the evolving geopolitical landscape. The "BORDERLAND - Securing the Future" event, held in Helsinki ahead of Slush Week, was an excellent demonstration of both the relevance of the theme and the strengthening cooperation within Eastern Finland's rapidly developing security sector.   Read also: The Finnish company Dispelix will begin supplying components to a major defense corporation. GTK to receive €18 million state funding next year for the pilot plant in Outokumpu.   GTK's Outokumpu pilot plant is crucial both for Finland's national mineral strategy and the EU's critical raw material self-sufficiency. The total value of the pilot plant investment is estimated at €55 million for the years 2025–2028. GTK Mintec's clients are companies from around the world, and it plays a key role in the Outokumpu Mining Hub as well as in the scientific community of North Karelia. Joensuu awarded 'Rising Star' in international Startup competition   Top organizations driving innovation in their respective ecosystems were awarded on Dec 4th in Paris during the ninth edition of the Startup Ecosystem Stars (SES) Awards. The City of Joensuu was awarded as a "Rising Star" in a category highlighting the contributions of public organizations or programs to the development of startup ecosystems. The focus was on areas such as investments, talent support, and industry assistance.
